NFR Official Reviews Progress of Jiribam-Imphal Railway Project
A railway line is being built to connect Jiribam with Imphal in Manipur.
A senior railway official visited parts of the unfinished project to check its progress.
The railway must pass through difficult hills and mountains.
Workers are building many tunnels and bridges along the route.
The project has 54 tunnels and 131 bridges in total.
One bridge at Noney will have very tall supporting pillars.
Officials are also preparing for a safety inspection planned for October.
The railway authorities want the remaining work completed safely and on time.
Some sections of the line are already operating, while other sections are still under construction.
Northeast Frontier Railway official Ashish Bansal inspected three under-construction sections of the 110.625-km Jiribam-Imphal railway line.
The inspection covered the Jiribam-Khongsang, Khongsang-Awangkhul and Awangkhul-Imphal sections.
Bansal reviewed tunnelling, bridge construction, safety, quality and preparations for a Railway Safety inspection planned for October.
The project includes 54 tunnels totaling about 66.47 km, 15 major bridges and 116 minor bridges.
Sections from Jiribam to Vangaichungpao and Vangaichungpao to Khongsang were commissioned in 2017 and 2022, respectively.
