House panel flags Eklavya school construction delays, seeks solutions

The Indian government wanted to build special schools called Eklavya Model Residential Schools for tribal children.

In these schools, children from tribal communities can live and study with modern classrooms and labs.

A group of people called a parliamentary committee checks whether the government is doing its work well.

The committee looked at how these schools are being built and found the work is going very slowly.

Of 728 approved schools, only 428 have been finished.

Building is still happening at 249 places, and 51 schools have not even started construction.

Many schools, 118 of them, are still running from government or rented buildings instead of their own permanent buildings.

Because building is slow, the cost of construction is going up, so the schools need more money.

The committee asked the government to find a new and better way to speed up the work.

It also suggested setting up a separate agency to keep a close watch on the building progress.
