Visakhapatnam Zoo Receives New Zebras, Wallaby and Tamarins
A zoo in Visakhapatnam received several new animals from another animal welfare trust.
The new animals include a zebra, a wallaby, a marmoset and a tamarin.
In return, the zoo sent three other animals to the trust.
The animals are being kept separate while veterinarians check their health.
Visitors will see them after these checks are finished.
The cotton-top tamarin is being shown at the zoo for the first time.
This tamarin is critically endangered and comes from Colombia.
The zoo says the exchange will support conservation and make visits more interesting.
Indira Gandhi Zoological Park received a zebra, red-necked wallaby, common marmoset and cotton-top tamarin on September 5.
The animals arrived through an inter-state exchange with the Radhe Krishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
IGZP sent an Indian gaur, stump-tailed macaque and gharial to the trust.
All newly received animals are under quarantine pending mandatory health assessments before public display.
The report says one zebra arrived but also states that three zebras joined the existing one, bringing the total to four.
