Tata Sons Gets AGM Extension Amid Quorum and Leadership Uncertainty
Tata Sons needed to hold its yearly shareholder meeting by the end of September.
The meeting on August 18 could not continue because not enough required representatives were present.
This happened after restrictions were placed on Sir Ratan Tata Trust.
That trust and another Tata trust must jointly provide representatives for Tata Sons meetings.
The Registrar of Companies has now given Tata Sons until December 31, 2026, to hold the meeting.
The meeting will discuss company accounts, a large dividend, and whether N Chandrasekaran should remain a director.
Chandrasekaran has said he will not seek another term as chairman after February 2027.
If the trust restrictions continue, the dispute could eventually go to an appeals tribunal.
The Registrar of Companies extended Tata Sons’ AGM deadline to December 31, 2026.
The company’s August 18 AGM was adjourned because the required quorum was absent.
The quorum problem followed restrictions imposed on Sir Ratan Tata Trust by Maharashtra’s Charity Commissioner.
The postponed AGM must address FY26 accounts, a ₹4,474 crore dividend, and N Chandrasekaran’s directorship renewal.
Chandrasekaran has told the board he will not seek another chairman’s term after February 2027.
