Tata Sons AGM Adjourned as Trust Dispute Deepens Leadership Uncertainty
Tata Sons is the company that sits at the top of the Tata Group.
It was supposed to hold an important shareholder meeting called an AGM.
The meeting could not continue because not enough required representatives were present.
Sir Ratan Tata Trust was unable to hold a trustee meeting and choose a representative with Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.
This was connected to restrictions from Maharashtra’s Charity Commissioner.
The meeting was meant to discuss Natarajan Chandrasekaran’s position as a director, company accounts and a dividend.
Chandrasekaran has said he will not seek another term as chairman after February 2027.
However, that does not immediately mean he has resigned as chairman or director.
Tata Sons must now set another meeting date and address its wider leadership and governance questions.
Tata Sons’ 108th annual general meeting was adjourned on Tuesday after failing to meet its required quorum.
Sir Ratan Tata Trust could not convene a trustee meeting or jointly nominate a representative with Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.
The Articles of Association require at least five members, including the joint trust representative, for a valid quorum.
The adjournment left unresolved Natarajan Chandrasekaran’s proposed reappointment as a Tata Sons director, along with approval of accounts and a dividend.
Tata Sons’ board is expected to decide on a new AGM date while uncertainty continues over Chandrasekaran’s succession in February 2027.
