Baramati Woman Booked for Drugging, Assaulting Husband, Burying Him Alive
A woman from a town called Baramati is in trouble with the police.
Police say she did very bad things to her husband.
They say she gave him something poisonous to make him pass out.
Then they say she hit him with a bat while he was not fully awake.
Police also say she built a box out of cement in their house.
They think she put her husband inside the box and tried to close it with flat stones, like trying to bury him while he was still alive.
Someone secretly called the emergency number, 112, to get help.
Police came quickly, broke open the box, and took the husband to the hospital.
He is getting better but is not well enough to talk to the police yet.
The woman now faces a very serious charge called attempt to murder.
Baramati City Police have registered a case of attempt to murder against Sharmila Pravin Jagtap (38), accused of trying to kill her husband, Pravin Prakash Jagtap (41).
Police allege Sharmila administered a poisonous substance to Pravin, rendering him unconscious, and then assaulted him with a bat while he was semi-conscious.
She allegedly placed Pravin in a cement enclosure in the house to bury him alive — one report describes a square enclosure in the balcony sealed with stone slabs, another a rectangular duct to be covered with a Kadappa stone.
The alleged plan was foiled after an unidentified caller made an emergency 112 call; police broke open the enclosure, rescued Pravin, and shifted him to hospital.
One report says Sharmila was booked while another says she was arrested; the FIR, filed by the victim's father after the family was initially unwilling, was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita attempt to murder charges, and police are probing the substance and possible accomplices.
