NTA Announces UGC-NET Re-exam for English, Commerce, Sociology in September
The National Testing Agency, or NTA, is the group that runs a big exam in India called UGC-NET.
This exam helps people qualify to become teachers or researchers.
In June 2026, the exam was held, but some students complained about three subjects: English, Commerce, and Sociology.
A group of experts looked at the question papers and found many mistakes.
There were wrong book titles, misspelt names, grammar errors, and even questions repeated from older exams.
Because the mistakes were so many, the NTA decided to hold the exam again.
The new exam will happen on September 9 and 10, 2026.
Only students who took those three subjects in June need to take it again.
Students do not have to pay any extra money for the retest.
The NTA says the number of students who pass will not be smaller than before.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the UGC-NET June 2026 examination again for candidates who appeared in English, Commerce and Sociology.
An expert committee found widespread errors in the three papers, including factual, language and translation mistakes, unclear wording and repeated questions from earlier exams.
The retest will be held on September 9 and 10, 2026, with English and Commerce on September 9 and Sociology on September 10.
Candidates will not have to pay another examination fee for the retest and should wait for NTA instructions before submitting any new application.
Qualifying numbers will be calculated at 6 per cent of candidates who appeared in June or the retest, whichever is higher, and existing JRF, Assistant Professor and PhD slots will not be reduced.
