UP court sets August 17 Rahul Gandhi defamation case hearing
Defamation means saying something that hurts another person's good name.
An important leader named Rahul Gandhi is being taken to court over this.
A man named Vijay Mishra filed the complaint against him.
Mr. Mishra wanted the court to check a recording of Mr. Gandhi's voice.
The court said no to that request.
Mr. Mishra then asked another judge to look at that decision again.
That judge also said no.
He said the request came too late and was not valid.
The case will now continue on August 17.
On that day, the judge will hear arguments from both sides.
A special MP/MLA court in Uttar Pradesh fixed August 17 for arguments in a defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
The court granted time to the complainant after he sought to challenge the dismissal of a revision petition before the Allahabad high court.
An Additional District Judge dismissed the revision petition on July 15.
The petition, filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra, challenged the trial court's May 2 order rejecting a forensic examination of Gandhi's alleged voice sample from a CD.
The revision court said the voice sample examination request was filed after an inordinate delay and lacked merit.
