ITC Expands Green Temple Waste-to-Resource Efforts Across Seven States
ITC is helping temples and communities handle waste more carefully.
Its Green Temples programme now works with more than 2,300 places of worship.
People are encouraged to separate wet waste, dry waste and flowers at the source.
Flowers can be processed into useful products, while plastic can be sent for recycling.
Some temples turn food and other organic waste into biogas and compost.
ITC says participating temples manage more than 90% of collected materials through recycling or reuse systems.
The company also runs waste programmes that serve millions of households.
These efforts are intended to support cleaner communities and the Swachh Bharat Mission.
ITC’s Green Temples initiative has grown from three pilot temples to more than 2,300 places of worship across seven Indian states.
The programme promotes source segregation, floral-waste recovery, plastic recycling, composting and biogas production.
Participating temples manage more than 90% of collected materials through closed-loop systems, according to ITC.
Under Mission Sunehra Kal, ITC’s waste programmes reached 8.23 million households cumulatively across 35 districts in 14 states.
During FY 2025-26, ITC collected 6.87 lakh metric tonnes of waste, with about 86% managed through composting, recycling and other systems.
