Annual Information Statement Helps Taxpayers Check and Correct Records
The Annual Information Statement is a record of financial and tax information linked to a taxpayer’s PAN.
It gathers details from several sources into one place.
People can use it to check their information before filing an income tax return.
They can view it on the income tax e-filing portal or in the AIS for Taxpayer app.
Some information may appear later because different sources send data at different times.
If a transaction is wrong, repeated, or belongs to someone else, the taxpayer can report it online.
The taxpayer can also say that certain income is not taxable.
After feedback is sent, the corrected summary may be used to help fill in the tax return.
The Annual Information Statement consolidates financial and tax information reported against a taxpayer’s PAN for a financial year.
It includes TDS and TCS, specified financial transactions, tax payments, demands, refunds, proceedings, GST returns, and selected investment information.
Taxpayers can access the statement through the income tax e-filing portal or the AIS for Taxpayer mobile app.
Information may be added or updated later, with some categories uploadable within three months after the month of receipt.
Taxpayers can submit transaction-level or bulk feedback, after which revised information in the Taxpayer Information Summary may pre-fill income tax returns.
