IIM Bangalore’s Undergraduate Debut Draws 12,000 Applicants for 80 Seats
IIM Bangalore is starting undergraduate courses for the first time.
Many students applied, but only 80 will be admitted in the first group.
There will be two programmes, one focused mainly on data science and the other on economics.
Students will also study the other subject as a minor.
The courses will last four years and will be residential, meaning students can live on campus.
The new campus is being built near Jigani-Anekal, outside IIM Bangalore’s main campus area.
Tata Trusts is helping pay for buildings, research and other parts of the school.
Classes for the first students are scheduled to start on August 31.
IIM Bangalore received strong demand for its first undergraduate programmes, with 12,000 students competing for 80 seats.
The inaugural cohort will study either a BSc (Hons) in Data Sciences with a minor in Economics or a BSc (Hons) in Economics with a minor in Data Sciences.
The four-year, full-time residential programmes will begin classes on August 31.
The new campus is about 23 kilometres from IIM Bangalore’s Bannerghatta Road campus in the Jigani-Anekal area.
Tata Trusts will provide philanthropic support for infrastructure, governance, research and the establishment of the Dorabji Tata School of Undergraduate Studies.
