Taliperu Project Gates Lifted Amid Heavy Rains and Cyclone Alert
Heavy rain sent a lot of water into the Taliperu project.
Officials opened all 15 of its gates.
They released 65,000 cusecs of water into the Godavari River.
The reservoir was nearly full at 73.16 metres.
Its full level is 74 metres.
Water was also released from the Palair reservoir to help fill irrigation tanks.
Several canals and lift irrigation schemes carried that water.
Officials placed departments on high alert because of a cyclone.
The Godavari was also flowing strongly near Bhadrachalam.
Irrigation officials lifted all 15 gates of the Taliperu project at Cherla.
The project released 65,000 cusecs of water into the Godavari River.
Water levels reached 73.16 metres, near the 74-metre full reservoir level.
Palair reservoir water was released to downstream irrigation tanks through several canal and lift schemes.
The Godavari at Bhadrachalam Bridge stood at 20.2 feet, with discharge of 182,926 cusecs.
