4,048 Indian seafarers repatriated from Gulf amid West Asia crisis
Many Indian sailors work on big ships in faraway seas near the Gulf.
A dangerous conflict happened in that part of the world, called the West Asia crisis.
The Indian government wanted to keep its sailors safe.
So it helped bring more than 4,000 sailors back home to India.
The government also helped their families after they returned.
A minister named Sarbananda Sonowal shared this good news with everyone.
The government is also making a new online service called E-Samudra to help sailors get papers and support more easily.
India now has over 300,000 sailors working on ships around the world.
India is the second-biggest country for providing sailors, and it hopes to become the biggest one day.
Union shipping minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced that 4,048 Indian seafarers were repatriated from the Gulf region after the West Asia crisis.
The Directorate General of Maritime Administration coordinated the repatriation with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions, Indian Navy, shipowners and other maritime stakeholders.
The government launched E-Samudra, an integrated e-governance and digital maritime services platform expected to go live from August 15.
India is now the world's second-largest supplier of seafarers, with Sonowal expressing confidence it will soon become the largest.
India's active seafarer workforce grew from about 1.03 lakh in 2013 to more than 3.23 lakh in 2025.
