US Navy to receive two more ship-to-shore craft under $230 million contract
The U.S. Navy has awarded Textron Systems a $230 million contract modification for two Ship-to-Shore Connector craft.
They will be built at the company’s shipyard in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The craft carry people, vehicles, equipment and supplies from ships offshore to shore.
They are designed to cross different tides, terrain and obstacles, and can reach shorelines that lack port facilities.
Each craft can carry a 74-ton payload, and its design aims to increase speed and capacity while reducing operating and maintenance demands.
The Navy has already received 18 craft, while 13 more are in testing or production.
The new craft are intended to support amphibious operations and could also carry aid to remote areas after disasters.
