Squadron 42 trailer reveals cast ahead of planned 2027 release

Cloud Imperium Games has released a new trailer for Squadron 42, a single-player game set in the Star Citizen universe.

The game is planned for release in the second quarter of 2027 and can now be wishlisted on Steam.

Players take the role of a new recruit in the United Empire of Earth Navy in the year 2945.

The story unfolds as the empire faces threats from outlaws and hostile alien forces, with players serving aboard a large ship and joining its crew.

The trailer shows space combat, ground-based shooting and cinematic scenes, and features actors including Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill and Gillian Anderson.

Squadron 42 is a spinoff of Star Citizen, a multiplayer game announced in 2012 that remains unfinished more than a decade later.

Star Citizen has also faced criticism over bugs, missions and expensive in-game ships.

The trailer presents Squadron 42 as a more focused, story-driven game, but its release is still planned for 2027.
