IMF raises 2026 global growth forecast slightly to 3.1%

The IMF raised its 2026 global growth forecast to 3.1% from 3.0%.

It kept its forecast for 2027 at 3.4%.

The IMF says the global economy has proved more resilient to energy shocks, helped by higher oil production outside the Persian Gulf, strategic reserves and weaker demand in China.

The Iran war has disrupted the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for energy trade, pushing up prices as supplies have tightened.

Poorer countries and energy importers face heavier costs, which can deepen poverty and make it harder for people to afford enough food.

The eurozone’s 2026 outlook also improved, with Ireland and Spain helping lift growth, while Germany’s forecast rose to 1.3%.

The IMF also warned that disappointment over AI expectations could trigger a sell-off in tech stocks and slow global growth.
