Egypt and Malaysia back political settlement to end Middle East conflict

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi has completed a two-day state visit to Malaysia, the first by an Egyptian leader in nearly three decades.

In Kuala Lumpur, he met Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to discuss the Middle East conflict and wider regional tensions.

Both leaders condemned Israeli military actions in Gaza and said a political settlement was needed to end the region’s crises.

They reaffirmed support for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital.

The visit also focused on closer economic ties, including trade, investment and tourism.

The two countries signed four agreements covering women’s empowerment, higher education, tourism and investment.

Bilateral trade reached $720 million in 2025, and Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry said it rose to $870 million in the first eight months of 2026.
