IMSS to visit 277 hospitals and address unfilled prescriptions
Mexico’s social security institute, the IMSS, plans visits to 277 hospitals to hear from staff and identify problems in day-to-day operations.
The visits will focus on medicine and supply shortages, unfilled prescriptions, staffing, equipment, facilities and working conditions.
The hospitals are at the second and third levels of care, where 267,000 IMSS workers are employed.
Patients whose prescriptions were not fully filled can report the missing medicines online at recetacompleta.gob.mx or call 800 953 22 18.
They need their CURP, the rejected prescription’s reference number and contact details.
Prescriptions remain valid for 76 hours, so the IMSS advises patients to keep the document when medicine is missing.
The institute says it will contact patients by phone about when and where medicines can be collected; hospital visits are intended to turn identified problems into commitments with deadlines and named staff responsible.
