Chinese academy launches alliance to build scientific AI data resources
AI systems need specialized scientific data to help with research, not just general internet information.
A new alliance in China will bring research resources and organizations together to build and share that data.
It has released standards and a service platform to support the work.
The aim is to help AI models reason about science, while making data sharing more reliable and secure.
The Chinese Academy of Sciences’ National Science Library initiated a corpus innovation ecosystem alliance in Beijing to support the use of artificial intelligence in scientific research.
The alliance released technical corpus standards, the Aocang corpus community service platform and the English-language journal Data Express in AI Corpus.
Its first 50 co-building members include research institutions, government bodies, AI and data infrastructure companies, publishers and other organizations.
The alliance has released 42 standards across five categories, covering the lifecycle of scientific corpus data from collection and processing to quality evaluation.
The article says scientific corpora require specialized handling because they contain scientific meaning, physical constraints and information about errors, unlike general internet data.
The alliance plans to work on high-quality scientific corpora, shared services and infrastructure, trusted governance, and joint testing of AI-for-science models and applications.
