Burnham says Iran’s Revolutionary Guard almost certainly directed Fairford incident

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Iran’s Revolutionary Guard almost certainly directed the Fairford incident in southwest England.

On September 27, police stopped three suspicious vans near RAF Fairford, a base used by the United States.

Seven people were arrested and later released on bail, but none has been charged.

Investigators found no explosives in the vans, though officials said they recovered petrol, and the incident led to a nearby village being evacuated.

Britain says the threat involved hostile activity on UK territory and has pledged to target Iranian networks and their funding.

The UK has summoned Iran’s ambassador and announced sanctions against two Iranian nationals, including a travel ban and asset freeze for a senior Revolutionary Guard official.

The United States withdrew its B-1 bombers from Fairford last week, while Iran has rejected British claims of involvement.
