Morena says it can win 2026–27 elections without allies
Mexico’s Morena party has approved its approach to alliances ahead of the 2026–27 federal elections.
Party leaders said Morena believes it can win without support from its current partners, the Labor Party and the Green Party.
The elections will include contests for the Chamber of Deputies and 17 state governorships.
Morena leaders said alliances should support public welfare, not simply provide political posts.
They also warned the party’s 17 state coordinators that their roles do not give them permission to campaign without rules.
Alfonso Durazo criticized aspiring candidates who, he said, use money to inflate their standing in party polls instead of working with communities.
Ariadna Montiel and Citlalli Hernández are continuing talks to maintain the alliance with the two parties.
Morena’s National Council approved the party’s alliance policy for Mexico’s 2026–27 federal election cycle.
Party leaders said Morena could win majorities in the Chamber of Deputies and 17 governorships without help from its allies.
The leaders said negotiations were continuing to maintain an alliance with the Labor Party and the Green Party.
Morena leaders also warned state coordinators against campaigning without guidelines and criticized candidates who inflate their poll support with money.

it would be a mistake to assume in our agreements that the possible withdrawal of an ally could make us lose
Our alliances and our proposals must serve to expand the wellbeing of Mexico. They are not for us to grab positions
Whoever, instead of working at the grassroots, pays media outlets to fictitiously increase their electoral potential, does not serve the cause of transformation
your duty is to stand with the people, to walk alongside them
