South Korean agency faces scrutiny over group film screening
South Korea’s Korea Authority of Land and Infrastructure Safety is facing scrutiny over a group screening of the film “Assassins.”
On September 28, staff from the authority, Korea Land and Housing Corp.
and the Housing Management Corp.
watched it at a cinema in Jinju.
The screening was arranged by Mirae Asset Securities as an extra service linked to its retirement pension business, not as an official event run by the agencies.
The authority received 30 tickets and distributed them to 16 employees through an internal draw.
Some groups filed complaints after the screening drew attention amid public debate over the film’s portrayal of history.
The agencies say the tickets were a low-value benefit under a legitimate contract and did not breach anti-bribery rules.
South Korea’s land ministry is gathering information and discussing ways to prevent similar concerns, and the authority may face questions at its parliamentary audit on October 12.
