Grant Morrison Says Lanterns Finale Was Morally and Legally Incoherent
DC writer Grant Morrison has criticized the ending of Lanterns, a DC television series featuring Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart.
Morrison said the show mostly worked, praising actors Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre and their chemistry.
But they objected to the finale, in which Sheriff Kerry shoots Hal after learning that her son Noah is a Manhunter in disguise.
Morrison said the show did not show a clear response to Hal’s killing or explain why Kerry was allowed to go free.
They also questioned John Stewart’s decision to let the Manhunter escape, despite the threat it could pose.
Morrison argued these choices clashed with the premise of the Green Lantern Corps as an intergalactic law enforcement agency.
A second season is rumored to be in early development at HBO, but Morrison said they were not counting on it.
Grant Morrison criticized the Lanterns Season 1 finale as “morally and legally incoherent.”
Morrison said the ending failed to address Sheriff Kerry’s killing of Hal Jordan and John Stewart’s decision to let a Manhunter go free.
They said the show mostly worked because of its leads, Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler, and their chemistry.
Morrison disagreed with writer Tom King’s view that Kerry living with her actions was punishment enough.
