Defenseman Matt Dumba retires after 13 NHL seasons with five teams

Matt Dumba is retiring from professional hockey at age 32.

The defenseman played 13 NHL seasons and appeared in 748 regular-season games.

His teams included the Minnesota Wild, Arizona Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Minnesota drafted him seventh overall in 2012, and he spent his first 10 NHL seasons with the Wild.

In 2020, he won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy for leadership and community service.

Dumba recorded 85 goals and 176 assists in the regular season, plus five goals and 10 assists in playoff games.

He last played for Pittsburgh in 2025-26, recording one goal and two assists, while spending most of the season with the team’s AHL affiliate.
