Local food can cut emissions, but what people eat matters more
Food creates emissions through farming, processing, transport and waste.
Transport matters more for some foods, such as fruit and vegetables shipped long distances, but raising livestock and clearing land are bigger sources overall.
Eating less beef and lamb can reduce emissions more than choosing local meat.
Buying seasonal local produce can still help and support nearby growers.
