NBA rookie extension deadline approaches with 11 players still eligible

The NBA season starts in one week, and teams are also facing Monday's deadline for rookie contract extensions.

Five players have signed so far, compared with an average of 11 per year since 2023, and many past deals were completed on deadline day.

Among the players still being watched are Brandon Miller of the Charlotte Hornets and Dereck Lively II of the Dallas Mavericks.

Miller has averaged more than 20 points in each of his past two seasons, while the Hornets see him as part of their new foundation after trading LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges.

Lively has shown strong rebounding and rim defense, but foot injuries have limited him to 98 games in three seasons.

The analysis suggests a possible five-year, $175 million offer for Miller and a three-year, $35 million offer for Lively, but neither deal is confirmed.

Teams can also extend some veterans and must trim standard rosters to 15 players by Oct.
