Porzingis to meet Warriors staff as return to play remains uncertain

Kristaps Porzingis has been away from the Golden State Warriors for two weeks because of a private health issue.

He is expected to return to the team’s San Francisco facility on Tuesday and meet with its medical and performance staff.

The Warriors will be in Las Vegas for a preseason game against the Lakers that day.

Coach Steve Kerr said there is no update on when Porzingis can play, and his status for the regular-season opener on October 21 is uncertain.

Porzingis has had health problems in recent seasons, but the team has not confirmed whether his current issue is connected to them.

While he is out, Kerr is leaning toward starting Stephen Curry, Brandin Podziemski, Gui Santos, Yaxel Lendeborg and Draymond Green.

Kerr said veteran center Al Horford may come off the bench because the team wants to limit his minutes.

The Warriors will assess Porzingis after he meets with staff, but no timeline for his return to the court has been given.
