Xuzhou’s Gulou district sees higher holiday sales and visitor numbers
Xuzhou’s Gulou district in eastern China attracted more visitors and spending during the National Day holiday.
Five major shopping centers and retail streets recorded sales of more than 210 million yuan, up 17.1% from a year earlier.
Their combined foot traffic reached 4.59 million, up 10.7%, and visits from outside the district increased by 14.4%.
Businesses and attractions offered activities ranging from racing simulators and pet-friendly shopping to traditional crafts, cultural events and sports competitions.
The district also used cultural sites such as the Guishan Han Tomb to connect local history with visitor experiences and souvenirs.
The effort reflects a shift from shopping alone toward activities that encourage people to spend more time in the area.
The figures show that holiday crowds brought a boost to local businesses, though no longer-term results are given.
During China’s National Day holiday, five monitored shopping complexes and commercial streets in Gulou district, Xuzhou, recorded sales of more than 210 million yuan, up 17.1% from a year earlier.
