Jang Gyuri says she left fromis_9 to focus on acting
Jang Gyuri debuted in 2018 as a member of South Korean group fromis_9.
She left the group in 2022 to focus on acting, a goal she said she had held since high school.
Before leaving, she was balancing group events and album work with filming the drama Cheer Up.
She said the conflicting schedules made it hard for the group to practise together, and she worried she was causing problems.
Gyuri said she and her former members still get along and keep in touch individually.
Working alone means she now has to take responsibility for her own activities, rather than sharing tasks with the group.
She said that responsibility makes her want to do better.

I’ve always wanted to act. It’s something I thought about since high school,
I could have done both singing and acting, but I’m not good at multitasking.
It was very hard to adjust schedules. There were many times when the members had to practice without me. I wondered if I was causing trouble everywhere. That’s when I thought it would be better to focus on just one thing.
We just get along well overall. We also keep in touch individually.
