QMines finds copper sulphides beyond Mt Chalmers resource
QMines has found an 11-metre zone of copper sulphides about 180 metres beyond the existing Mt Chalmers resource in central Queensland.
The discovery is outside the resource boundary and the mine plan used in the project’s 2024 pre-feasibility study.
The company says the sulphide veins look geologically similar to mineralisation beneath the known copper-gold deposit.
That similarity raises the possibility that Mt Chalmers and the Botos area are part of a larger connected mineralised system, but this has not been proven.
The discovery could create new exploration targets and potentially expand the resource.
QMines is drilling follow-up holes to assess the zone’s size, direction and continuity.
Laboratory assays are expected later in October, and the new zone is not included in the definitive feasibility study now underway.
QMines has intersected an 11m zone of visually identified copper sulphides beyond the Mt Chalmers resource in central Queensland.
The intersection is about 180m beyond the existing resource boundary, and a connection to the Botos corridor has not been proven.
The sulphides were found in a drillhole between about 192m and 203m downhole, with laboratory assays expected later in October.
Follow-up drilling is underway to test the zone’s extent and continuity.
The new zone is not included in the resource, the 2024 pre-feasibility study pit design or the definitive feasibility study now underway.
- Who
- QMines, an exploration company.
- What
- It intersected an 11m zone of visually identified copper sulphides beyond its Mt Chalmers resource.
- When
- The discovery was reported on 12 October 2026; assays were expected towards the end of October.
- Where
- At the Mt Chalmers project in central Queensland, about 180m beyond the existing resource.
- Why
- The intersection could indicate a larger mineralised system towards Botos, but a connection remains unproven.
This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
The geological similarities and position of this intersection raise the possibility that Mt Chalmers and Botos form part of a larger, connected mineralised system, potentially opening up a significant new exploration opportunity
While the connection between Mt Chalmers and Botos remains to be demonstrated, we are excited by the opportunity to potentially grow the Resource well beyond its current boundaries
QMines had identified an interpreted 4km mineralised corridor from Woods Shaft through Mt Chalmers towards Botos.
Stockhead reported the 11m copper sulphide intersection beyond the Mt Chalmers resource.
QMines began follow-up drilling to test the new zone’s extent and continuity.
Laboratory assays were expected to establish grades.
