Putin says Russia is ready to supply diesel to US and global markets
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia is ready to supply oil and petroleum products to the United States and other markets after a phone call with US President Donald Trump.
Trump said Russia would send 300,000 tonnes of diesel in October, 500,000 tonnes in November and up to one million tonnes in December.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak gave similar figures and said deliveries could later reach three million tonnes a month, depending on refinery conditions.
Russia has faced fuel shortages after attacks on its refineries, and Novak said the country would lift its diesel export restrictions while keeping its own market supplied.
The announcement comes as high gasoline prices are a concern for the Trump administration ahead of US midterm elections.
Putin also said the leaders discussed the war in Ukraine, Iran and bilateral relations, while peace talks on Ukraine remain stalled.
The proposed fuel deliveries and a possible resumption of peace negotiations are the next developments to watch.
