Hitzesommer leaves Swiss forests weakened, with some trees at risk of dying

Heat and drought have damaged forests across Switzerland, especially in the northwest.

In Aargau, satellite data showed a strong decline in forest health on 11% of the woodland area.

Officials warn that many trees in the worst-hit areas may die, but they will know more after trees try to grow leaves again in spring 2027.

Rain and cooler conditions could help forests recover.
