Locally made vehicles rise to 34% of Turkey’s domestic market

In Turkey, locally made vehicles made up 34% of domestic vehicle sales this year, compared with 29% last year.

The figures were presented by Cengiz Eroldu, head of the country’s Automotive Industry Association.

Overall, vehicle production fell 6% in the first nine months, and total exports fell 10%, although their value in dollars rose 2.8%.

The drop in production and exports was mainly linked to passenger cars, while production and exports of light and heavy commercial vehicles increased.

Eroldu said factories slowed as they prepared production lines for new models.

The higher share of local vehicles matters to Turkey’s carmakers as they face weak demand, lower factory use and cost pressures.

Eroldu expects new investments to support production and exports in the coming months, with their impact becoming clearer next year.
