Gen Alpha uses “AI” as slang for things seen as fake or cheap

Some young people are using “AI” as an insult for things they think are fake, cheap or bad.

The phrase turns the name of a technology many children grow up with into a put-down.

A linguist says AI’s links to made-up answers and deepfakes may help explain the slang.

It is not yet clear whether the phrase will catch on beyond school.
