Chimpanzees Steal Food Less Often From Close Partners
Researchers tested 26 chimpanzees by giving one access to pineapple and another the chance to take it.
The chimps stole food in 61% of trials with close partners and 70% with less-bonded chimps.
Both the victim’s and the thief’s reactions also differed depending on their relationship.
The findings suggest chimpanzees have expectations about how friends should treat each other, offering clues to the roots of human friendship.
