Former Mantua councillor sentenced over posts targeting migrants and president

A court sentenced former Mantua councillor Luca De Marchi to 13 months in prison for posts about migrants and President Sergio Mattarella.

The sentence is suspended, so he will not go to prison unless conditions are broken.

He was acquitted over a separate post proposing sweets only for Italian children.

His lawyer said he may appeal, arguing the posts were political criticism.
