Review: Jessica Chastain horror film Other Mommy offers few scares
Other Mommy is a supernatural horror film starring Jessica Chastain.
It follows Bela, a young girl who encounters an entity that looks like her mother.
The entity wants Bela to let it into her heart so it can enter the physical world.
The film is based on the 2024 novel Incidents Around the House and was produced by James Wan.
Its central idea links the entity’s interest in children to their innocence, but the review says the film does little to develop that premise.
The reviewer also says the story feels rushed and has few frightening moments, despite the film’s reputation for jump scares.
The climax briefly builds interest, but the review concludes that the film is an underwhelming choice for viewers seeking a genuine scare.
Hindustan Times gave the horror film Other Mommy a rating of two out of five stars.
