Percy Jackson musical brings the book’s story to São Paulo stage
“The Lightning Thief” musical has arrived at Teatro Liberdade in central São Paulo.
It follows the first Percy Jackson book: Percy discovers he is the son of Poseidon and must recover Zeus’s stolen lightning bolt to prevent a war among the gods.
The stage version keeps the book’s story but tells parts of it through 21 songs.
Translating the songs meant fitting familiar Portuguese names and phrases to the music’s rhythm.
Percy Jackson fans have been wary of adaptations since two films drew criticism for changing the original story.
The musical is scheduled to run through November 29.
A new season of the Disney+ Percy Jackson series is also scheduled for next month.
The musical Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief opens at Teatro Liberdade in central São Paulo, following the story of the book.

Translator Victor Mühlethaler said he worked to preserve terms familiar to readers while fitting them to the original songs’ rhythms.
