Petition for Italian local businesses passes 50,000-signature threshold
A citizens’ bill promoted by Italy’s Confesercenti business group has collected more than 50,000 signatures, enough to be submitted to Parliament.
Confesercenti announced the milestone at an event in Rome.
The proposal aims to address the decline of local shops and services, which the group says affects jobs and community life.
It would create special areas where businesses could receive tax breaks, financial support and simpler administrative rules.
The plan also calls for a dedicated fund and a national observatory at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy to track the problem and assess the measures.
Confesercenti is asking the government and Parliament to begin examining the proposal and approve it.
