Supreme Court orders Delhi transport and internet services restored

Supreme Court orders Delhi transport and internet services restored

The Supreme Court on Sunday found a possible breach of its October 9 order against a complete shutdown of Metro and train services in Delhi.

It issued notices to the Union home secretary, the Delhi Police commissioner and the Delhi Metro chief.

The court also directed that Metro, train and internet services and traffic be normalised, and that lawyers and journalists be allowed to do their work.

The case involved detained protesters and claims that court orders and fundamental rights had been violated.

Senior advocate and Rajya Sabha member Kapil Sibal had expressed doubt a day earlier that going to court would bring relief.

After the court’s order, he said it restored people’s faith in the justice system.

The court’s directives set out steps for restoring services and professional work in the city.
