Cadillac continues to manage brake overheating at Singapore Grand Prix
Cadillac’s brake overheating returned at the Singapore Grand Prix, where driver Valtteri Bottas had to lift off the throttle and coast from lap two to manage temperatures.
The problem has affected the team’s car throughout its first Formula 1 season and has contributed to four retirements.
Upgrades have reduced brake temperatures, including a change that Bottas said lowered them by 100C, but Singapore was not trouble-free.
Bottas said the issue was almost solved and expected the team to be in better shape for the rest of the year, while next year’s car design should be quite different.
He also struggled with a lack of pace and poor ride quality in Singapore, finishing 96 seconds behind team-mate Sergio Perez.
Cadillac still lacks about a second per lap to compete with other teams, according to Perez.
The team has six races left to score its first top-10 finish and avoid ending its debut season without a point.
