KAI’s AAP drone completes first formation flight with FA-50

Korea Aerospace Industries said its AAP drone completed its first formation flight with an FA-50 light attack aircraft.

The flight took place on October 8 over the sea south of Goheung, South Korea.

The aircraft flew about 9 to 30 metres apart for 20 minutes, at an altitude of 2.1 kilometres.

The AAP is a 150-kilogram unmanned aircraft designed to fly with crewed fighters or other drones.

This kind of cooperation is known as a manned-unmanned teaming system.

The AAP is intended to carry out missions such as reconnaissance, jamming, deception and strikes.

The company gave no schedule for further tests or deployment.
