Two magnitude 4.1 earthquakes recorded in Mexico on October 12

Mexico’s National Seismological Service recorded 27 earthquakes between 12:14 a.m.

and 6:42 a.m.

on October 12, 2026.

They ranged in magnitude from 2.3 to 4.1.

The two strongest were a magnitude 4.1 quake 110 kilometres southwest of Tonalá, Chiapas, and another 62 kilometres southwest of Huetamo, Michoacán.

The Chiapas quake occurred 17.1 kilometres below the ground, while the Michoacán quake was 56.2 kilometres deep.

Most of the recorded activity was in southern and southeastern Mexico, including Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas.

A magnitude of 4.1 is considered moderate and may be felt near its centre, but does not by itself mean significant damage will occur.

The service monitors earthquakes and reports their location, depth and magnitude.
