Rakuten TV plans audience measurement in Italy from 2027

Rakuten TV expects to start measuring its channel audiences in Italy in 2027.

The company already measures audiences in the UK through the Barb system.

Its chief executive, Cédric Dufour, says measurement will help show advertisers whether their spending is producing results.

This matters as advertisers move money from traditional television to connected TV, where ads can be more targeted.

Rakuten TV’s free, ad-funded channels compete with large streaming services and traditional broadcasters.

Its business division is also expanding beyond Europe, with channel licensing in the US and Middle East and technical services in Japan.

The company says its next step in the Middle East is to launch channels in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia by the end of the year.
