Ordu plans a 30-hotel ski resort at Göndeliç Mountain
Ordu is planning a large winter tourism centre at Göndeliç Mountain in northern Turkey.
The mountain was declared a Culture and Tourism Protection and Development Zone, and the project is intended to make Ordu an international winter destination.
Plans cover about 4,000 hectares, with 30 ski runs stretching 120 kilometres, nine lift systems and space for up to 70,000 people a day.
The centre would include 30 hotels with 28,954 beds and is expected to create 3,500 jobs.
Ordu already has Çambaşı ski centre, which has nearly 10 runs and a 120-bed hotel.
Ski tourism brings in more money per visitor than summer tourism: reported average spending is $150–$250 per person per night, compared with about $100 in summer.
Turkey’s ski centres receive around six million visitors over a winter season, and the Göndeliç project aims to attract visitors from nearby Black Sea provinces, Georgia and the Middle East.
