Horizon Gold drilling finds high-grade gold at Western Australia project
Horizon Gold has reported high-grade gold results from drilling at its Gum Creek project in Western Australia’s Murchison region.
At Snook, drilling found an intersection of 44 metres grading 5.08 grams of gold per tonne, and confirmed mineralisation to 230 metres below the surface.
Snook already has a resource of 54,000 ounces, and the company says the results point to potential for a larger open pit and possible underground mining.
Drilling also found gold south of the old pit at Cobia and north of the former Alma May pit; neither prospect currently has a resource.
Gum Creek is a former mining area where more than one million ounces of gold have been produced, and operations stopped in 2005.
Horizon’s feasibility study proposes a new processing plant and a 10-year mine, but the project is still being developed.
The company expects initial resource estimates for Cobia and Alma May in the coming months, plans an updated estimate for Snook, and says more drilling will follow.

The standout Snook result was 44 metres grading 5.08 grams per tonne of gold.
A deeper Snook intercept returned 11 metres at 16.3 grams per tonne.

Horizon expects maiden resource estimates for Alma May and Cobia in the coming months.
- Who
- Horizon Gold reported the drilling results.
- What
- Drilling found high-grade gold at the Gum Creek project, including a 44-metre intercept grading 5.08 grams per tonne.
- When
- The results were reported on October 12, 2026.
- Where
- Gum Creek, in Western Australia’s Murchison region.
- Why
- The drilling aimed to extend the Snook resource and test mineralisation at several prospects.
This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
With follow-up drilling already underway across multiple prospects and further programs planned, we see meaningful scope to enhance project economics well beyond the recent DFS.
Infill drilling at Alma May and Cobia is on track to deliver maiden resources over the coming months.
Operations at Gum Creek ceased when gold was priced at A$560 an ounce.
