Vizianagaram prepares for local elections, identifies sensitive polling areas

Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh is preparing for local body elections.

District Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy said the State Election Commission is expected to announce the election schedule in a couple of days.

Officials are collecting information on villages and polling areas considered sensitive or highly sensitive, working with the police to plan safeguards.

Booths where one candidate received more than 75% of the votes are to be designated as sensitive.

The administration says it has arranged ballot boxes and papers and is preparing for each stage, from nominations to voting.

The elections include a mayor and 62 corporators in Vizianagaram Municipal Corporation, as well as representatives in other local bodies.

Candidates will use party symbols in these elections, but sarpanch elections will not; the Commission’s notification will set out the schedule.
