South Korea’s president says he will keep using social media to communicate
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung said he will continue using social media to communicate with the public.
He recalled the late Park Won-soon, a former mayor of Seoul, as someone who valued direct communication with citizens.
Lee said Park had once told him that abusive comments made it difficult to read replies on social media.
Lee argued that blocking insults, harassment and false claims can help keep online discussion open to more people.
He said he would not block people simply for disagreeing or criticising him, and welcomed comments made with courtesy.
Lee also explained that the phrase “좌아하게” was a playful twist on the word “elegantly,” not a term from a political online community.
He offered no further details about what prompted his posts.
