Eagles Right Tackle Lane Johnson Announces In-Season Retirement

Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson has announced he is retiring during the 2026 season, after playing three games.

The 36-year-old had expected this season to be his last, but said his family priorities had changed and he needed to focus on his mental health.

Johnson was drafted fourth overall by Philadelphia in 2013 and spent his career with the team.

He made six Pro Bowls and earned five All-Pro honors, and was part of two Eagles Super Bowl-winning teams.

His retirement ends a long career at a position central to the Eagles’ offense.

The retirement had not yet been officially processed, and the team may need to address the financial terms of his contract.

Johnson’s contract runs through 2027, but the sources do not say what steps the Eagles will take next.
