US Temporarily Eases Sanctions on Russian Diesel Imports

The US has temporarily eased sanctions to allow imports of Russian diesel, as fuel prices approached record highs.

President Donald Trump said Russia had agreed to send more than 300,000 metric tons to the US and global markets.

He also said Russia would supply another 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons after that.

The US Treasury issued a permit allowing Russian diesel imports until April 7.

US sanctions on Russian oil companies were imposed in 2025 over Russia’s war in Ukraine, which began in 2022.

Diesel is used in farming, freight transport and home heating, and the announcement was followed by a drop in its price, though analysts questioned whether the supplies would keep prices low.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy criticized the decision, saying it could help Russia fund the war.
